今日の英語科教育法はNew Crown 3 のLesson５ [Show and Tell]の模擬授業であった。学生を中学生と見立てて授業を行った。気づいた点をいくつか述べておく。
Greetings and a Small Talk (3 minutes)
ここでは、挨拶を行う。全員を見回してにっこり笑う。Hello, everyone. How are you? 一人の学生を当てて What is the news? / What is the weather today?/ What day of the month is it today? などと聞いてみて様子をみる。ここでは、ice-breaking の意味もある。何か一つ joke を述べるといいだろう。
Review (10 minutes)
Listing to yesterday’s part again. Then the teacher asks some students to read out yesterday’s part. Based on her/his voice reading, the teacher gives some advice. たとえば、chopsticks の発音の修正とか、meal の意味の確認などである。常に生徒の理解度を確認しながら進めていく。また、Q & A をおこなうこと。Several questions are based on yesterday’s lesson. Confirmations of important words and phrases are also important. たとえば、Hashioki の発音が英語では後ろから2番目に強勢いがくること、などを再確認すること。
Presentations and Explanations (34 minutes)
Listening to today’s part. As Lesson 5 is a dialogue between a Japanese and a foreigner, two students are asked to read loudly as the pair. Then the teacher asks students what is the meaning of such and such words and phrases. Some students who did not prepare before the class usually say “I don’t know.” In this case, the teacher should not scold them but encourage them to prepare for the lesson next time.
Q & A: How does Meling play chientsu? What Japanese game looks like chientsu? 文科省の指導で授業では英語を主に用いるようにとのことである。いわゆる Classroom English を用いて、授業の進行上のやりとりは英語でも行えるが、内容の説明、たとえば文法的な項目を英語で説明するのは中学校でも高校でも難しい。しかし、英語で授業をすることが絶対的な至上命令ならば、Q & A の部分を充実させて、それに答えることで英語の内容の理解と英文の構造にある程度深めることができる。
授業の中で、生徒がだれたなと感じたら､クイズをするとよい。5分ほどで答えられる英語の問題などがよい。普段からいくつか教員は用意しておくべきだ。
Consolidation (3 minutes)
まとめとなるが、今日の授業での一番のポイントを再度述べる。次回の授業のために何を予習してきたらいいのか確認をしておく。最後に挨拶をする。
